Prescribed Burn Manager Certification Changed

The Alabama Forestry Commission, in consultation with the Alabama Prescribed Burning Council, has made several changes in the Certified Prescribed Burn Managers program.
The new regulations include:

1. Changing the initial training requirement by requiring a 32 hour training course for all new burn managers, plus pre-course work. (The 12 hour course for experienced burners has been dropped.)

2. Setting the Prescribed Burn Manager Certification with a five (5) year term, which is a change from the previous rules, which did not have a term limit.

3. Requiring 6 hours of continuing education prior to certification renewal.

4. Establishing a transition period for the recertification process.

5. Modified the minimum standards for Prescribed Burn Plans.
